What I Packed for My First Solo Trip to Belize-5 Days: A New Diver's Guide

My First International Solo Trip: 5 Days in Belize

Late this summer, I took my first international solo trip to Belize for five days. The purpose of this trip was to:
  1. Build my confidence as a new diver.
  2. Learn about Belizean culture, specifically the Garifuna community.
This was my first dive trip since earning my certification in Jamaica in 2023. To prepare, I scoured Facebook, Reddit, and visited my local dive shop to figure out the minimum equipment I should have or consider purchasing. Beyond diving gear, I also needed to pack efficiently for Belize’s weather. As someone who travels light, I only brought a carry-on for this trip.

Weather in Belize

Belize is located east of the Caribbean Sea, making the weather tropical year-round. During my visit in late August and early September, temperatures ranged from the high 70s to the low 90s Fahrenheit.
