Choosing a therapist.

I’ve had this question asked in some form or fashion…”How do I find/choose a therapist?”

I was able to find my previous & current therapists via Psychology Today (psychologytoday.com). Psychology Today allows you to locate a therapist based on location/zip code, in addition to the following:

  • Sex

  • Gender

  • Religion/Faith

  • Ethnicity

  • Issues

  • Practices

  • and of course price and insurance.

To make the process easier for me I looked for a therapist who was: a black woman that accepted my insurance, but that’s not all. I literally read each therapist bio/description whom I was interested in, checked out their website, social media and reviews. Pretty much stalked them out.

Oh & I had to make sure they held virtual sessions…not trying to drive into an office. I love having the sessions at home…I’m sure it would be nice to go in, but idc to tbh.

Back to the selection:

Then I narrowed it down to 2 or 3 therapists and then reached out to the therapists via Psychology Today. I made my final decision based on their response times and communication via phone.

The therapists that I’ve selected through this process have both been amazing! The reason I had to change therapist was due to insurance changes.

Hopes this help you with the process of finding YOUR therapist 🙌🏿
